Posted on December 19, 2011 at 8:12pm 0 Comments

Carolyn Reidy, CEO of S&S, acknowledges one of the year's significant developments, as well as S&S's response in remarks to employees: "As self-publishing becomes a more viable option for new and established authors, now more than ever we must continue to do everything in our power to make the publishing experience for Simon & Schuster’s authors the best it can be, and to add value over and above our core editorial, marketing, and distribution functions.…

While I belong to a number of other "writing" sites, I'm still looking for that one site that is a cut above. As many of you have found out on your own, many of the other sites are heavy in the advertising of either themselves or their products. I'm hoping that this site is more into asking questions as well as communicating fresh ideas to others that have joined. As for me personally, I've written what I guess would be called a romance novel. I can tell you first hand the value of hiring a copy-editor. As many passes (five) as I have made through my novel looking for mistakes of one kind or another, my copy-editor found more than even I care to admit publicly. I know that copy-editing does not usually come cheap, but your writings will be far better for having done it. As for me, it was the best investment so far towards (hopefully) eventual publication. Now comes the hard part -- query letter, proposal, finding an agent, publisher, etc. I'm sure that most of you will agree, writing is the easy part. Welcome all and I look forward to many future discussions.
